Advantages of Vaso-Meditech EECP over Bypass Surgery and Angioplasty?

Download Interview Transcript (English)

Synopsis

  • EECP is cost effective when compare to other modalities of treatment.
  • CABG carries high risk of procedural and post-operative complications.
  • During EECP treatment sessions, patient can able to go to work and other routine activities.
  • EECP is first option for Coronary Artery Disease to improve the quality of life and improve myocardial blood flow beyond blocked arteries.

All the treatment strategy for coronary artery disease, Whether it is invasive or non-invasive, whether it bypass surgery or angioplasty, whether it is EECP or it is medical management. The strategies basic is to improve the blood flow to heart muscles across the blocked arteries. So if you want to increase the blood supply across the blocked arteries in a simple way. EECP is the only solution.

  • EECP is absolutely a non-invasive treatment.
  • It does not involve any invasive procedure and does not involve any injection.
  • It is highly cost effective.

When compared with existing modalities of treatment like PTCA and CABG, EECP treatment actually costs 1/4th of the cost of bypass surgery and angioplasty. However, the treatment can provide the same relief in symptoms, and the same improvement in the quality of life of what CABG and PTCA can offer. Since EECP is non-invasive it does not involve in any injury or complications or any adverse effects when compared to PTCA and CABG.

Even though bypass surgery and angioplasty are effective in a certain group of patients, it also carries a high risk of procedural complication and postoperative complications. All these complications are very dreadful. In certain condition, CABG surgery may cause major complication, stroke. Sometimes it causes loss of memory and many times delay in wound healing may take place. It takes months for the patient to completely heal.

Here EECP absolutely a non – invasive and you do not have to involve in any major complications. So patients are able to go to work every day after one-hour treatment. So overall when compared to other invasive cardiac treatment, EECP provides improvement similar to what invasive surgery can offer. So as a physician I would recommend EECP as the first option for patients with coronary artery disease to improve their quality of life and improve myocardial blood flow beyond the blocked artery. If EECP may not able to provide symptomatic improvement, quality of life improvement and recurrent hospitalization and then I may consider other invasive options.

In our experience with optimal medical management and EECP in patients with stable condition, more than 90% of patient may not able have to go for an interventional procedure.
