Volunteer Health Services Cardiology Department EECP Inauguration was held in Chennai on 28th September 2012, marking the inauguration of the Cognizant EECP Centre at the Cardiology Department of Volunteer Health Services VHS. The centre was inaugurated by Mr. N. R. Krishnan IAS Retd., Director of Cognizant Foundation, at the K. S. Sanjeevi Auditorium.

During the inauguration, Prof. N. Subramanian, Chief Consultant Cardiologist of the VHS Cardiology Department, addressed the gathering and highlighted the potential role of Enhanced External Counterpulsation EECP treatment in non invasive cardiac care. He stated that EECP treatment would be provided at VHS for eligible poor patients under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Health Scheme.

The introduction of the EECP Centre at Volunteer Health Services Chennai represented an important step toward making non invasive cardiac treatment more accessible to patients who required appropriate cardiac care. EECP was highlighted as a non invasive treatment approach that could have wider applications for selected cardiac patients and may help support improved quality of life.

Enhanced External Counterpulsation uses synchronized external compression of the lower limbs during the cardiac cycle to support blood circulation toward the heart. The therapy has also been associated with the concept of a natural bypass through collateral circulation. For appropriately selected patients, EECP may be considered as part of a medically supervised cardiac treatment plan, including patients exploring heart blockage treatment without surgery.

The Volunteer Health Services EECP Centre inauguration reflected the growing awareness of EECP therapy in Chennai and its potential role in providing non invasive cardiac care to suitable patients. The initiative also demonstrated the importance of making advanced cardiac treatment available to patients through structured healthcare and government supported health schemes.
