Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Specialty Hospital has been established in Omandurar Government Estate, Chennai for providing better treatment for various ailments to the poor and needy. In this Super Specialty Hospital, nine critical care specialties i.e. Cardiology, Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Hand and Reconstructive Micro Surgery, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Nephrology, Vascular Surgery and Post Operative Care and ICU are functioning with bed strength of 400 beds. The Hospital was inaugurated by the Hon'ble Chief Minister on 21.02.2014 and the Hospital is functioning with sophisticated equipments. As on 01.04.2015 over 90931 out-patients and 12800 in-patients have been treated. 24497 radiological investigation, 36735 laboratory investigations, 1977 surgeries, 1321 cardiac angio and other interventions have been carried out benefiting poor and needy people.

Cardiology Department in the Government General Hospital has set up EECP department with EECP systems with in-patient facility for patient who needs hospitalization and Intensive care back up. The center has centralized oxygen connection available to heart failure patients.

Dr.S.Ramasamy EECP consultant and expert was appointed in charge for the EECP ward.

The center treats average 45-50 patients per day under EECP based ischemic Burden reduction Program (IRP).

1. Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS)

The Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS) provide free medical and surgical treatment in Government and Private hospitals to the members of any family whose annual family income is less than Rs.72,000/- (as certified by the Village Administrative Officers) .The Scheme provides coverage for meeting all expenses relating to hospitalization of beneficiary.

2. The New Health Insurance Scheme (For Government Employees and Pensioners)

This will provide cashless health insurance coverage to the families of all government employees of Government of Tamil Nadu, State Public Sector Undertaking, Local Bodies in Tamil Nadu, State Government Universities and Statutory boards under the control of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
